Bang tidy; London fireworks

Guy Fawkes night is upon us, and unless you want to spend it watching a spluttering Catherine wheel in some boozy relative’s back garden, here are a selection of London firework displays you might want to feast your eyes on:

FRIDAY 5th NOVEMBER
NORTH: Totteridge Fireworks Display
Mulled wine, hotdogs and fire jugglers at the Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club. £7 adults, £4 children (under 14). Open 5.30-11pm, display starts at 7.15pm. Totteridge Green, N20 8PB. Nearest station: Totteridge and Whetstone tube. Car parking facilities available at St Andrews School, Totteridge Green, N20 8NX.


EAST: Wanstead Fireworks
Food, drink and family entertainment at one of North London’s longest standing firework events, by Wanstead Flats Park. Gates open 6.45, display at 7.45pm. £3 per person, under 5’s go free. Wanstead Flats, Centre Road, E7 ODJ. Nearest station: Wanstead Park overground. No parking at venue.

SOUTH: Clapham Common Fireworks
One of the biggest and best displays in London, with the added bonus of being free. Display begins 7.30pm. Clapham Common, Windmill Drive, SW4 9DE. Nearest station: Clapham Common or Clapham South tube. Clapham Common station will be exit-only from 6.30pm-8pm. Expect local parking spaces to be in short supply.

WEST: Westway Fireworks Display
Fire jugglers, performers, bonfire and fireworks. 6.15-7.30pm. Maxilla Gardens, off Marks Road, W10 6NQ. FREE! Nearest station: Ladbroke Grove tube.


SATURDAY:
CENTRAL: Lord Mayor’s Show and Fireworks Display
A lot of pomp and ceremony during the daytime – think horse drawn carriages and marching bands – followed by a display at 5pm, with fireworks launched from a barge moored between Blackfriars and Waterloo bridge. Nearest station: Waterloo rail/tube, Embankment tube.

NORTH: Enfield Fireworks
Gates open at 6, fireworks begin 7.30pm. £6 adults, £4 children. Enfield Town Park, Cecil Road. Nearest station: Enfield Town Rail/Enfield Chase Rail.

EAST: Barking Park Fireworks Display
Gates open at 5.30pm, with family entertainment starting at 6.15 and fireworks at 8pm. Longbridge Road, Barking, 1G11 8TA. Nearest station: Barking tube.

SOUTH: Battersea Park Fireworks
Bar and food, with bonfire lit at 7.30pm. Fireworks from 8pm. £6 entry, £1 for under-10’s. Queens Town Road, SW11 4NJ. Nearest station: Battersea Park rail. This station will be closed between 6-8pm so arrive early.

WEST: Ealing Cricket Club Fireworks
This years’ display has an edge of nostalgia, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Expect an era-appropriate soundtrack, well stocked bar, candy floss stands and funfair rides. £5 entry, under-14s £3 when accompanied by an adult. Nearest station: Ealing Broadway tube.

SUNDAY:
EAST: Victoria Park Fireworks.
No food or funfair, but the fireworks come free, so can’t complain. Victoria Park Road, E9 7BT. Nearest station: Mile End tube.

WEST: Richmond Family Fireworks display
A terribly pleasant family affair, done the way only Richmond dwellers know how. Fairground attractions, mulled wine and hog roast. Gates 4.30, fire lit 6.30pm. £10 adults, £4 children, under 5’s go free. Richmond Athletic Road, Kew Foot Road, TW9 2SS. Nearest station: Richmond.
